It’s Cold so I’m Packing for the Beach

Since I’m already planning my next beach trip I wanted to share some of my beach essentials. Here are the things I took to the beach this summer and will be taking on my next tropical getaway.

L’Occitane Facial Mist: It’s so easy to feel overheated and sticky on the beach. This mist wakes the face up with a light fragrance and skin soothing properties. I store it in my day bag for the beach, the city or anywhere else I might go. It’s a DAILY essential.
Use as needed.

DITTO #EndlessEyewear: With a monthly $24 subscription you can have #EndlessEyewear. It’s like Netflix for your face. Order a pair, keep as long as you’d like and when you’re ready to get a new pair DITTO will ship the new pair and a return label to send the other pair back. It’s really great for those of us who like to mix up our looks frequently. Use code “IANCRUMM” for a complimentary month subscription.
Swap sunglasses as desired.

diptyque Roll-on Fragrance: This Philosykos roll on fragrance has notes of fig leaves, wood and white cedar. While not the citrusy scent often associated with summer or tropical climates, I think the earth notes hold up well for a day in the sun.
Roll on as needed.

Summer to Fall Skin Care Options

With summer coming to an end (wipes tears off face), it’s a great time to reassess skin conditions. If you’re like me this summer was filled with plenty of time in the sun, soaking up the rays by a pool or a beach. Hopefully with some sunscreen on, but it’s inevitable that the sun did some damage to our faces over the last few months even with a heavy SPF. There’s dead skin built up that needs to go leaving room for a polished appearance for fall. Here are some of my current skincare products that I love using.

Cleanser: L’Occitane

With the summer sun there is a good chance your facial skin has excess dead skin built up if you are not already using an defoliant. L’Occitane’s Cedrat Pure Cleanser has tiny exfoliating properties that polish skin, giving a deeper, more refreshing clean than a regular cleanser.
Use about twice a week.

Aftershave: Burt’s Bees

Although I stay away from shaving, opting for an electric beard groomer most days, the times that I do shave this comes in handy. My neck in particular becomes sensitive and razor burn prone. Sunflower and coconut oils help skin recover after shaving forcing razor burn from developing. It’s lightweight so a great product to use before a SPF moisturizer during the summer and fall.
Use after shaving.

Eye serum: La Prairie

It’s never too early to start preventative measures when it comes to skincare. I’m not going to sit hear and act like I have an aging problem – I don’t. However… from laughing all the time (sending thanks to my hilarious friends!), being in the sun, smiling, etc. there are small lines forming on my face. Deep breath, Ian. It will be alright… La Prairie’s Eye Complex uses caviar extracts to prevent lines from forming. The product is very lightweight and soaks in fast. It leaves skin around the eyes feeling awake, moisturized and helps with that whole aging thing…
Use morning and night.

The Fast Shave

Even in a morning rush it’s important take a few seconds to freshen up before greeting the public. One of my morning musts is using an electric shaver to clean up facial hair before dabbing on moisturizer.

The Hyperflex Rotary Shaver by Remington is great for dry OR wet shaving, but since I’m in a morning pinch let’s stick to using it for a dry shave.

The Hyperlex technology allows the entire head to adjust to any angle on the face to help reduce irritation. Wooh – thank goodness! I’ve had problems before with razor burn and bumps when trying other dry shaving techniques and shavers.

After touching up my stubble, I add a little Kiehl’s Facial Fuel moisturizer. This moisturizer is an energizer; it literally tingles my face and makes me feel more awake!

VOILA! The Hyperflex Rotary Shaver by Remington is great for mornings when you’re running late. Use it outside the shower for a fast dry shave or use it in the shower with a gel or foam for ultimate comfort. What’s your morning must? Face moisturizer? Lip balm? Hopefully you have time to feel refreshed even in a pinch!

Kempt | Flexwax

There it is. That beautiful hair wax.

A dime size or so… ;)

Start spreading product in the back of your hair. This allows the majority of the wax to go where the majority of hair (for the majority of people) is and avoids clumpy bangs.

Just adjusting hairs here and there.

 TAAAAAA DAAAAHHHHH

Kempt and such thanks to OSiS+ and the new Flexwax formula. I like this formula because it holds my thick and unruly hair in place and at the same time stays soft. It’s not like other waxes/pastes that clump up and kill volume. Feel like putting the windows down and achieving the “wind blown” look? Go for it! Flexwax pushes hairs right back into place with a quick swipe of the hand. Bravo!

Kempt | Eyebrows

What makes a brow? The color? The shape? The cut? All of the preceding. The other week I went and got my eyebrows groomed. For years I’ve tamed them myself, but decided to let someone else take a pluck at the bushy guys. A slight dark brown tint job and a hair less here and there, then I was out the door. The result? Darker brows that enhance my facial structure. I posted an outline of the tinting process on Racked – in case you’d like the dirty details. Key takeaway: the salon services men on the regular and now my eyebrows compliment the color of my facial hair. Booyah!
